This past October As You Wish was honored to be a part of Amanda and Josh's backyard wedding. The setting was perfect! An open, outdoor ceremony followed by a tented reception overlooking the water. Amanda wanted to incorporate some fall elements into the wedding, and she did so beautifully! Take a look!





The floral pieces were provided by Daevid's and they were absolutely stunning! He placed roses in hanging glass orbs which hung from a tree, creating a beautiful backdrop to the ceremony.



The bride carried a bouquet of calla lilies, tulips, and freesia with accents of orange hypericum berries, lily grass, and green ivy




The centerpieces incorporated some of the same floral elements in tall cylinder vases, and the head table's arrangement was placed inside a hollowed out pumpkin. The centerpieces were complimented with dainty pumpkins and gourds which were hollowed out to hold votive candles, and complete the overall look. It was the perfect finishing piece! The tables were covered in ivory linens with a beautiful swirl overlay. Gold flatware, gold chargers, and gold chiavari chairs with ivory cushions completing the decor.







Guests enjoyed the station style reception with food by Sweetwater Cuisine. Everyone raved about the mashed potato bar, and the oversized clam shell ice sculpture that showcased jumbo cocktail shrimp alongside the sushi display.




For dessert guests enjoyed this whimsical fall cake by Patti Cakes in addition to her signature chocolate cake pops, which are incredibly delicious and highly addictive by the way!






Photography was provided by the amazingly talented Chelsea Lavere with Bit of Ivory Photography. The beautiful backdrop and natural lighting was provided by God, and Blue Steel provided the rest.

Abbey & James

Back in August we had the opportunity to play a part in the wedding of Abbey and James, whom we instantly fell in love with. Spending just five minutes with these two love birds would have you smiling and laughing along with them. Needless to say, after quite a few months of planning and prepping we were very excited when their wedding day had finally arrived!

Abbey took great pride in designing her dream wedding, and it was an honor for the As You Wish team to execute her vision for her. Abbey chose black and white with damask and hot pink accents. (We loved it!) The event took place at The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel in Suffolk, Virginia and there were 220 guests in attendance.



The bridal party wore black and white with pink accents as well. The groomsmen wore white tuxedo jackets with pink rose boutonnieres while the groom had a pink callalily with miniature black feather accent.




Floral creations were provided by Palette of Petals and they did an amazing job!
The girls wore short black dresses with their choice of black shoe (love this!), and a white pearl strand secured with a hanging pink ribbon in the back. Another great touch, courtesy of our stylish bride, Abbey. Our bride carried a gorgeous hand tied bouquet of pink callalilies wrapped with a damask ribbon, while her bridesmaids carried bright pink clutches with a black floral accent. Our fabulous bride wore a stunning pair of pink heels.






While guests were enjoying hor dourves and the musical talents of saxophonist Jashaun Peele in the lobby of The Hilton Garden Inn Hotel during the cocktail hour the As You Wish team was transforming the ceremony space into the reception. The tables consisted of a mixture of damask linens with floral arrangements and damask table runners with candelabras.




This event was filled with as much love and detail as it was energy! The groomsmen, who were all fraternity brothers surprised the newlywed couple with an impromptu step show that was a big hit for the guests as well!




In addition to the step show, guests enjoyed a candy buffet and a gelato bar as the evening went on. The bride and groom had a few tricks up their sleeve as well, and surprised their guests with a nontraditional bouquet and garter toss!



There is a lengthy list of things we love about this couple and their wedding, but one of our absolute favorites is this custom piece of art they had created in their likeness:

Tangerine Tango

One of the best parts of planning a wedding is choosing the colors that will be incorporated into the special day. After you have your significant other, the ring, and a proposed date, color becomes a very important element in the remainder of the planning process. Think about all of the things that revolve around your wedding colors (listed in no particular order):
-Your venue
-Bridal party attire
-Flowers
-Ceremony and reception decor
-Invitations, Programs, Menu Cards, etc.
-Possibly the cake and favors
-A menu can even be created to work with your color scheme

The world around us is filled with so many different colors, and we create our wardrobes around the colors that we are most drawn to. A wedding should be no different! Admit it, color is one of the most important aspects of planning a wedding! While some brides have known the color(s) of their wedding since they were 5 years old, others may need to seek guidance in choosing the right color for their big day. Enter PANTONE. Dictionary.com refers to this little gem as "A system for matching colors, used in specifying printing inks" while the fashion and wedding world would refer to it as THE world-renowned authority on colour and provider of colour systems. A color think tank if you will.



Pantone has recognized Tangerine Tango as our 2012 Color of the year, recognized as 17-1463 in their index. An excerpt from the Pantone website: “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.” We don't know about you, but we would love for this to be the forward to the book of our dream wedding! What a beautiful description!

We love the thought of pairing Tangerine Tango with other bright and vivid colors! It's definitely a color that's looking to add a little bit of fun to your day!

John & Whitney

We had the opportunity to be a part of John and Whitney's beautiful wedding day at The Hermitage Museum and Gardens in Norfolk, VA this past weekend, and we are so excited to share a glimpse of their event! Click the images below to watch the video!

White Wedding Day

We all know that current traditions say that the bride is the only one who should be wearing white at a wedding. It wasn't always this way. White was actually considered a color of mourning in ancient times. Brides dresses would be deep, rich colors and bridesmaids would wear dresses in similar color and style to the brides. It was a superstitious tradition for bridesmaids to dress similarly to the bride to ward off evil spirits. Queen Victoria changed that by wearing a white dress in her 1840 wedding to Prince Albert, though the bridesmaids still stayed in colored dress. Now it seems the tides are changing and brides are more open to their bridal parties wearing the pure color just as they do.


Most notably was Pippa Middleton as maid-of-honor for Catherine Middleton this past spring. Typically in British weddings the wedding party consists of younger girls dressed similarly to the bride. These girls are young enough that white isn't considered taboo, much like putting a flower girl in a miniature version of a brides dress in American weddings. But when Pippa stepped out in her stunning white Sarah Burton dress she shocked people and started a new trend for weddings stateside.







Kate Moss followed the trend in her July 2011 wedding having her wedding party wear white as well. She wore an almost ivory colored John Galliano dress but had her 16 bridesmaids and flower girls decked out in white giving the wedding a very ethereal feel to it.


And of course now we know that Kim Kardashian was the more recent celeb to follow the white trend dressing sisters Khloe and Kourtney in white dresses for her wedding this past weekend. She even asked guest to dress in black and white to give the wedding a very clean look to it.


This trend is not just for celebs. Whether you're having an outdoor beach wedding or an evening candle lit traditional ceremony the clean look of all white can be a stunning backdrop for bright accent flowers and sashes to add that splash of color in a more subtle fashion. So are you daring enough to go all white at your wedding?
